Why guide ratio matters more than the headline price

A $38,000 package with a 1:4 guide ratio and a $55,000 package with 1:2 aren't the same product wearing different price tags — guide ratio is one of the clearest predictors of both summit success and safety margin in an emergency. When comparing operators, ask directly: how many climbing Sherpas per client, and what's the actual (not marketed) summit success rate over the last 3 seasons.

A credential worth asking about: IFMGA certification is the international mountain guide standard. Not every capable Sherpa guide holds it, but an operator who can tell you clearly which of their lead guides are IFMGA-certified is usually more transparent across the board.
